“You are what you eat. So don’t be Fast, Cheap, Easy or Fake!”
Happy New Year everyone. I thought it would be good to continue on from November with Food Allergy Myth #3:
You’re either allergic, or you’re not.
What many people don’t realize when it comes to allergies, many people don’t realize that food allergies work on a ‘scale’.
For example, someone could eat one tiny cracker and wind up inflamed for several weeks. While at the same time, another person could eat that same cracker and wind up with an auto-immune reaction (e.g. those with celiac).
At the other end of the spectrum, some foods that you eat, may over time, cause inflammation. For example, you may not have any symptoms when you eat a clementine until you decide to pig out them every day during the Christmas holidays — then suddenly you go from “no symptoms” to “I think I’m dying!”
Sometimes, people can feel better when they eat foods that they’re sensitive to. In other words, you develop an addiction to those foods…get it?
As an example, let’s assume you’re sensitive to clementines, but you don’t know it. You usually eat them, but for some reason you didn’t eat any today. You start to become tired, agitated or perhaps even get a headache. When you grab that clementine and eat it, you suddenly feel all better. In this example you were having a withdrawal symptom. Once your body got what it craved, you’re symptoms disappeared.
What you don’t realize is, every time you eat a clementine, your body will mount a bigger attack against this invader which will eventually lead to a stronger allergy.
Having said all this…do you get fatigued, agitated or a headache if you don’t get your daily caffeine or sugar fix?
Something to think about, right? Listen to your body, it’s very smart!
